Gymnocladus dioica (L.) K. Koch, family Leguminosae Kentucky Coffee Tree
Native to eastern and central United States, where the seeds were supposed to have been roasted and ground to make a coffee-like beverage. Height to 33m (110ft). Male and female flowers open in June on separate trees: males are in bunches about 7.5-10cm (3-4in) long, females in bunches 3 times that size, each flower about 1.8-2.5cm (¾-1in) long. Leaves are branched, or bipinnate.
