Ilex canariensis Poir. Native of Madeira and the Canary islands, where it is quite common in the remnants of the laurel and heather forests in Tenerife and Gomera, at around 700 m, flowering in May. A shrub or tree to 15 m. Leaves usually without spines. Fruit 1 cm in diameter. Hardy to -5°C perhaps.
