Halimium lasianthum This upright bushy shrub, from Portugal and Spain, has greyish downy stems and leaves. The golden, Cistus-like flowers, with a dark red blotch at the base of each petal, appear in summer. Other forms include ‘Concolor’, which lacks the basal spot of colour, and ‘Sandling’, which has conspicuous maroon basal blotches. Cultivation Grow in well-drained soil infull sun. Height to 1m (3ft); spread to 4m (13ft). USZ 8–11, surviving -12°C (10°F) of overnight frost provided the plant is not waterlogged. Tolerant of summer drought. |
