Hedera algeriensis Hibberd 'Gloire de Marengo' (syn. 'Variegata') A form of H. algeriensis discovered at the Villa Marengo in Algeria. Often listed under H. canariensis, but with different chromosome number. Hibberd's old name is now recognized again.
A vigorous evergreen climbing shrub that grows up to 30ft (9m) tall or more. Small greenish flowers in late autumn and leaves to 6in (15cm) long and wide. The fruit is a small black berry. This shrub grows well in full or part shade and, in cooler areas, will benefit from a sheltered site on a north wall. Hardy to 10°F (-12°C), US zones 8–10 or slightly lower. The Algerian Ivy is native to North Africa
