Leucophyllum frutescens (Berl.) I. M. Johnst. (Scrophulariaceae) Barometer Bush or Ash Plant A twiggy silver-leaved shrub with pale mauve or pink flowers, native of Texas and Mexico, growing on dry hot stony hills and plains, flowering in spring–summer following showers of rain. Shrub to 2m. Leaves to 2.5cm long. Flowers to 2.5cm across. A very tolerant shrub in dry climates, popular in Australia as well as in North America. Min. -5°C, if dry. ‘Green Cloud’ has greener leaves and deep violet flowers. Z9.
