Lantana camara L. ‘Arlequin’(Verbenaceae) An evergreen shrub with small bright yellow to orange flowers, turning to red with age, native of tropical America, growing in open woodland, often colonising disturbed ground, and now found in quantity throughout the tropics, flowering from late spring–autumn. Shrub 1–2m tall, with somewhat prickly stems bearing opposite, finely wrinkled ovate leaves 5–10cm long, the margins slightly toothed. Flowers salver-shaped, 8–10mm wide, carried in rounded terminal clusters 3–5cm across. Min. 5°C. Long cultivated, this species has given rise to many cultivars in a range of colours.
