Mackaya bella Harv., syn. Asystasia bella hort. (Acanthaceae) An evergreen shrub with shiny elliptic leaves and veined pale purplish-blue flowers, native of the coast of Natal and Zululand, growing as an understorey shrub in forest, flowering much of the year. Shrub to 1.5m; leaves wavy-toothed to 7.5cm. Flowers 5cm long. For any well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Min. -5°C. Z9.
