Olearia chathamica T. Kirk A lax shrub with white or pinkish flowers, native of the Chatham Islands, New Zealand, growing in dry or somewhat boggy ground, flowering in early summer. Stems to 2m, densely branched. Leaves 3–8cm, alternate, oblong spear-shaped to elliptic, regularly and finely toothed, shiny green above, woolly below. Flower heads 3.5–4.5cm, solitary; ray florets numerous, white, occasionally tinged purple; disc florets dark purple. Min. -6°C. A very attractive shrub for a mild, moist climate. Olearia semidentata Dcne, also from the Chatham Islands, differs in its smaller narrower leaves with smaller teeth and usually purple flowers. |
