Pandorea pandorana (Andr.) van Steenis Wonga Wonga Vine A large climber with twining stems, large pinnate leaves and branched inflorescence of many small cream, buff, pinkish or maroon flowers, native of New Guinea, S through E Australia to Tasmania, growing in open forest, flowering in winter and spring. Stems to 30m. Leaves with 7–19 leaflets, to 10cm long. Flowers scented, 1–3cm long, usually hairy and streaked with red inside. Best in areas with moist summers and cool winters, but tolerant of drought and a minimum of -5°C. Prune after flowering. Cultivation Easily grown in any soil, flowering well in partial shade. Height to 5m (16ft). USZ 10–11, surviving -1°C (30°F) of overnight frost. Tolerant of summer drought. |
