Pachystachys lutea Nees (Acanthaceae) An erect evergreen sub-shrub with dark green leaves, broad overlapping yellow bracts and white flowers, native of Peru, flowering in spring–autumn. Stems 40–100cm; leaves to 12cm, with conspicuous sunken veins; corolla to 4.75cm long, deeply 2-lipped. For good moist soil and shade or partial shade. Min. 5°C. Pachhysstachys coccinea (Aubl.) Nees has green bracts and red flowers.
