Picea spinulosa (Griff.) Henry Sikkim Spruce or East Himalayan Spruce Native to eastern Himalaya, where it grows to more than 60m (200ft). In cultivation however it has not attained this height. Flowers open in May, males about 2.5cm (1in) long, females slightly longer. Cones are about 6-9cm (2¼-3½in) long, green with purple edges, ripening to brown. Needles are 2-sided, point forwards and have sharp points. Bark is light grey and breaks into round plates and shallow cracks. Z8.
