Quercus frainetto Ten. Hungarian Oak. Deciduous, native to southern Italy, the Balkans and Rumania, grows well in cultivation. Height to 30m (100ft). Flowers open in May and the acorns, 1.2-1.8cm (½-¾in) long, fall in October. Leaves grow to 20cm (8in) long; the upper surface soon becomes dark green the lower surface downy and greyish green. Z.6.
