Prunus spinosissima (Bunge) Franch. (syn. Amygdalus spinosissima Bunge) (Rosaceae) native of the Kizil Kum, Tien Shan, Pamir-Alai, N. Iran and Afghanistan, in rocky places in the mountains at 700-2600 m, flowering in April. Low, spiny, deciduous shrub to 1 m and more across. Leaves elliptic-obovate to oblanceolate, to 2 cm long. Flowers pale pink, 1.5-2 cm across. Fruit oval to rounded. Dry, well-drained soil; full sun. Hardy to -20°C.
