Prunus pensylvanica L.f. Pin Cherry, Red Cherry, Bird Cherry or Wild Red Cherry Deciduous, native to northern N. America from the Atlantic coast to the Rockies. Short-lived but provides useful shelter to other young trees. Height to about l2m (40ft). Flowers open in late April or May, 1.2cm (½in) across. Fruit is round, about 0.6cm (¼in) and ripens to red. Leaves are finely toothed with a hairless stalk. Zone 2 |
