Prunus 'Kanzan' synonym 'Sekiyama'
Kanzan Cherry. The names 'Kanzan' and 'Sekiyama' are derived from the Chinese character representing a sacred mountain; the first name is also sometimes spelt 'Kwanzan'. A popular cherry for gardens and streets. Height to l2m (40ft). Flowers open in late April or early May, each about 5.5cm (2¼in) across with about 30 petals. Leaves have long teeth and are dark reddish when they first appear at flowering time and remain so for some time. They colour golden or sometimes red in the autumn.
Susceptible to honey fungus and is not normally a long-lived tree.
Hardy to -20°F (-29°C), US zones 5–9.
