Prunus americana Marsh. American Red Plum, Wild Plum, August Plum, Goose Plum or Hog Plum A deciduous tree or bush, native to eastern United States. It has given rise to many named varieties and is cultivated in eastern states for its fruits. Height to 9m (30ft). Flowers open in April and are 1.2-2.5cm (½-1in) across. Fruit are round, about 2.5cm (1in) across, ripening from yellow to bright red, with yellow flesh. Leaves have tufts of down on mid rib and vein axils beneath and downy stems. Zone 3 |
