Reinwardtia indica Dumort (Linaceae) Yellow Flax A small shrub with bright yellow flowers in autumn and winter, native of SE Asia from Pakistan eastwards, growing in wasteland and on field banks at up to 1800m, flowering in November-May. Shrub to 1m, but often prostrate. Leaves obovate to oblanceolate, 3-9cm long. Flowers with petals 1.5-3cm long and 5 fertile and 5 sterile stamens. For' any soil, with ample water and humidity in summer. R. cicanoba (D. Don) Hara from Nepal, Bhutan and SW China has larger leaves and more numerous flowers with petals 3-5.5cm long. Min. -3°C.
