Trichostema (Labiatae) The genus Trichostema contains 16 species of aromatic, evergreen, small shrubs and herbs, which are native of North America. Trichostema lanatum Benth. Wooly Blue Curls or California Romero. This rosemary-like shrub, from California, has narrow green leaves, grey beneath, and whorled racemes of two-lipped, blue flowers, with protruding stamens, in late spring to summer. It deserves to be better known outside the USA. Cultivation Grow in very well-drained soil in full sun. Height amd spread to 1m (3ft). USZ 9–11, surviving -6.5°C (20°F) of overnight frost. Tolerant of summer drought. |
