Tamarix aphylla (syn. T. tetrandra ) A deciduous shrub that grows to 10ft (3m) tall, of loose and open habit and usually wider than tall. Flowers are produced in spring on the previous year’s shoots. Best in a sunny position. Hardy to -10°F (-23°C), US zones 6–10 and very tolerant of seaside conditions. Native to south-eastern Europe and western Asia, and introduced in the early 19th century.
