Tilia platyphyllos Scop. Large-leaved Lime or Broad-leaved Lime Native to Europe (including Britain), the Caucasus and Asia Minor, planted in European streets, parks and avenues. Height to 41m (135ft). Flowers open in late June, each about 1.2cm (½in). Fruits are downy, about 1.2cm (½in) long with 3-5 ridges. Leaves are dark above and paler, usually hairy on the lower surface, especially the midrib, vein axils and the stem. Bark is dark grey with narrow cracks or ridges. Zone 5 |
