Viburnum carlesii Hemsl. Native of Korea and Tsushima Is. (Kyushu) in scrub, flowering in April-May. Deciduous, rounded shrub to 1.5 m. Leaves broad, ovate, 3-10 cm long, densely pubescent beneath, with 5-7 pairs of veins. Flowers 1-1.4 cm across, scented, in a rounded head 5-7 cm wide. Any soil; sun or part shade. Hardy to -20°C. Late spring.
