Yucca whipplei Torr. Our lord’s candle
This stemless shrub, from California and Mexico, has stiff, finely toothed leaves, to 1m (3ft) long and 1.5cm (3⁄4in) wide. Its flower stem, 2m (6½ft) or more long, is much branched. The scented, nodding, white flowers, 5–7cm (2–3in) long, open in Spring.

Cultivation Needs dry rocky soil in full sun. Water in winter.
Height to 3m (10ft); spread to 2m (6½ft). USZ 9–11, surviving -6.5°C (20°F) of overnight frost. Tolerant of summer drought.
