Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge (Sapindaceae)
Native of N. China. Deciduous, erect shrub to 6 m. Leaves pinnate, to 20 cm long, with 9-17 toothed leaflets each 4-6.5 cm long. Flowers 2.5-3 cm across, with 5 petals, yellowish then reddish at their base, in panicles up to 20 cm long, opening with the leaves. Any soil; full sun and a warm, dry situation. Hardy to -20°C. Early summer. Best with warm summers and dry springs without late frost.
