Acacia saligna syn. Acacia cyanophylla Blue-leaved Wattle or Golden Wreath Wattle This fast-growing, evergreen shrub or smallspreading tree, native to southwest Australia, has drooping reddish branches and narrow, blue-green leaves. It is free flowering with spikes of globose, bright orange-yellow flowerheads from late winter to late spring. This shelter plant tolerates some exposure to coastal conditions, and has been use to combat sand-dune erosion. It can become very invasive, as has happened in parts of South Africa. Cultivation Tolerates most reasonably well-drained soils in sun or partial shade. Height to 10m (33ft); spread to 6m (20ft), but often less. USZ 9–11, surviving -3°C (27°F) of overnight frost. Tolerant of summer drought. Z8. |
