Acacia pravissima F. Muell. Oven's Wattle A blue-grey shrub or small tree with drooping slender branches, flat triangular leaves (phyllodes) and globular flower heads in long branched racemes in the upper leaf axils, native of New South Wales and Victoria, flowering in September-October(spring). A tall open shrub or tree to 8m; leaves 0.5-2 x c.1cm, with 2-3 clear nerves. Pods c.10cm, flat, slightly curved, dark brown. Needs well-drained soil, and stands drought well. This is one of the hardiest and most tolerant species to grow in cool, moist climates, and does well outside in W. Britain. Unfortunately it is difficult to root from cuttings. Min. -10°C. ‘Golden Carpet’ is a low spreading form with weeping branches, cultivated in Australia. Z8. |
