Acacia paradoxa DC. syn. Acacia armata R. Br. Kangaroo Thorn or Hedge Wattle A spreading shrub with slender branches and small flat leaves (phyllodes) with a pair of spiny stipules at the base, the globular flower heads born singly in the leaf axils, native of Queensland, Western Australia, New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania, flowering in August-October. Shrub to 4m; leaves 1-3 x 0.5cm, flat, with a prominent midrib off centre. Flower heads 6mm across. Pods 4-8cm, usually hairy. A very tolerant plant which stands drought and wet well. Lime-tolerant, and stands salt winds. Min. -5°C. Z8. |
