Acacia dealbata A. Cunn. (Leguminosae) Silver Wattle Mimosa An upright large shrub or tree with grey, bipinnate leaves, and spikes of yellow, globular scented flower heads, native of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, flowering in July-October (winter). Tree fast-growing to 10m; branches white, hairy when young; leaves c.10cm long, with 10-25 pairs of pinnae c. 3cm long. Pods 7-10cm, blue-green, not constricted between the seeds. For well-drained preferably moist soil, but stands drought and wet. Min. -10°C. This species is grown in many other parts of the world, and is especially common in S. France, being used as a cut flower. The variety ‘Mirandole’ is said to be the hardiest. ‘Pendula’ is a lovely weeping form. ‘Kambah Karpet’ is a prostrate, ground-covering form, grown in Australia.
