Actinidia coriacea (Finet & Gangep.) Dunn (Actinidiaceae) An evergreen climber with small red flowers, native of China in Sichuan on Mount Omei and Baoxing, growing in forests, flowering in May-August. A unisexual shrub to 3m or climbing to 8m. Leaves to 15cm long, leathery, glabrous, oblong to lanceolate. Flowers scented, to 2cm across, the male larger than the female. Fruit to 2cm across, brown. A handsome shrub for a partially shaded position, but must be grown on a warm wall in cold areas. Introduced by E. H. Wilson in 1908. Min. - 5°C. Z6.
