Araucaria heterophylla (Salisb.) Franco. (Araucariaceae) Norfolk Island Pine An evergreen tree, eventually up to 60m, native of SW Pacific and S America. Leaves narrow, soft, pale green, to 1cm long, becoming smaller and scale-like with age. Female cones subglobose, to about 10cm long and round. Planted as a windbreak in subtropical areas and in temperate climates often used as a decorative plant in large covered areas; suitable for conservatory use for only a few years as it grows quickly. Min -2°C for short periods only. Zone 9. |
