Amicia zygomeris DC. (Leguminosae) Native of W. Mexico, in the western Cordillera, in woods and by rivers at 1800-2500 m. Deciduous subshrub to 2 m or more. Leaves with 4 leaflets around 6 cm long: stipules leafy, usually purple, 2 cm across. Flowers 2 cm long, yellow-veined purple. Any soil in a warm sheltered position in full sun. Cut down by frost in winter, but growing quickly again from the rootstock. Hardy to -10°C. with protection for the root. Late summer.
