Aloysia triphylla (L’Hérit.) Britt., syn. Lippia citriodora (Lam.) HBK. (Verbenaceae) Lemon Verbena A deciduous shrub with strongly lemon-scented foliage and small lilac or white flowers, native of Chile and Argentina, growing in open scrub, flowering in late summer. Shrub to 3m tall with erect stems bearing whorls of 3–4 glossy green, narrowly lanceolate leaves up to 10cm long. Flowers tiny, salver-shaped, lilac or white, in terminal panicles to 12cm long, or in shorter axillary spikes. Min. -10°C. Well-suited to an unheated conservatory, the deliciously scented foliage can be used in the kitchen or in pot-pourri. |
