Aloe striata Haw. A large succulent with a stemless rosette of thick leaves and a much-branched inflorescence of bright pink flowers, native of South Africa in the Cape from Worcester east to the Little Karoo, Port Elizabeth and the E Cape, growing in dry bush and rocky places, flowering in August–September (spring). Stems decumbent. Leaves to 50cm long, greyish, without teeth. Inflorescence to 1m, much-branched at the top. Flowers to 2.5cm, hanging down. For a warm sunny position. Min. -5°C. Aloe saponaria Haw. differs in its smaller spiny-edged brown-banded leaves.
