Abies numidica De Lannoy ex Carr. Caucasian Fir Native to mountains in a small part of Algeria, planted in gardens for ornament and grows better in cities and towns than most silver firs. Growth can be rapid once established reaching 25m (85ft). Flowers appear in April, the females developing narrow cones 13cm (5in) ripening brown and covered in resin. Foliage is distinct in having needles set all round the twigs and all pointing upwards, dark bluish green above sometimes with a triangular patch of grey near the rounded tip. Two white bands beneath. Bark is pale pink-grey to orange, splitting to form plates when older. Z6.
