Abies koreana Wils. Korean Fir Native to Korea, often grown in gardens since it is generally rather small and bushy and produces cones freely from a young age, making a very decorative small tree. Height to 9m (30ft) in cultivation. Both male and female flowers are produced in May, males on shoots all over the tree, and females 2-5cm (1-2in) on upper branches. Ripe cones are 5-7.5cm (2-3in) long and usually covered with white resin. Leaves are shorter than most silver firs, 1-2.5cm (½-1in) with blunt, notched tips and bright white undersides. Bark is dark, covered with lenticels or pores. Z5. |
