Abies firma Sieb. & Zucc. Momi Fir or Japanese Fir
Native to south Japan, grown in collections and for ornament in large gardens. Height may reach 24-30m (80-100ft). Male flowers shed pollen at the end of April, females are 2.5cm (1in) long developing into 8cm (3½in) cones. Foliage is bright green above, silvery below and has a distinct leathery feel to it. The needles are dark green and conspicuously tapering towards the base, with 2 sharp points at their tips. Bark is pinkish-grey Z6.
