Abies concolor (Gord.) Hildebrand Colorado Fir or White Fir Native to Colorado, Arizona, southern California, Utah and Mexico. Grown in collections and gardens but rare, the variety lowiana being more common. Height to about 30m (100ft) in. the wild. Flowers open in late April, males round and yellow, females yellow-green, about 2.5cm (1in) long. Cones are 7.5-12.5cm (3-5in) long, and may be dark purple or bright yellow-green. Leaves are rather long, and produce a strong lemon smell when crushed. Z4.
