Agave deserti This desert succulent perennial is found in southern California, Arizona, and northwestern Mexico. It forms colonies of greyish rosettes with pale-spined leaves, 15–40cm (6–16in) long. The yellowish flowers, to 5cm (2in) long, in a rather slender inflorescence, to 3m (10ft) long, are borne in spring. Cultivation Easily grown in any hot, dry, sandy soil in full sun . Height to 5m (16ft); spread to 1m (3ft). USZ 10–11, surviving -1°C (30°F) of overnight frost. Tolerant of summer drought. |
