Agave americana L. ‘Mediopicta Alba’ (Agavaceae) Century Plant The species forms a huge succulent rosette of glaucous spiny leaves with a branching inflorescence of yellow flowers, native of Mexico, but commonly planted in Mediterranean countries and spreading underground by suckers. Rosette to 3m across. Leaves 15–30cm wide, with spines on the margin and a terminal spine 3–5mm long. Inflorescence 5–8m, with yellow flowers.
Cultivation Easily grown in any dry soil in full sun; is good also in a pot
Height to 8m (25ft); spread to 3m (10ft). USZ 9–11, if dry surviving -6.5°C (20°F) of frost. Tolerant of summer drought.
