Acokanthera oppositifolia (Lam.) Codd Bushman’s Poison A shrub or small tree with alternate leaves and white starry long-tubed flowers, native of S Africa from the SE Cape to N Natal, growing in scrub, flowering in April–December (mainly in early spring). Tree to 6m; leaves to 13cm long, often tinged reddish; flowers 5mm across, the tube pinkish, to 2cm long. Fruits blackish-purple, very poisonous. For a sunny position. Min. -3°C. |
