(Solanaceae) Lady of the Night A shrub or small tree with long-tubed white flowers soon fading to creamy yellow and very fragrant at night, native of the West Indies, growing in evergreen forest at low altitudes, flowering in summer. Shrub or small tree to 5m tall. Leaves 5–13cm long, elliptic or obovate, rather leathery. Flowers solitary at the ends of the branches, 4–7cm across, with a slender, slightly curved tube to 7cm long and 5 spreading, wavy-edged lobes; calyx short, bell-shaped. Min. 10°C. Widely cultivated in warm regions for its scented flowers. Z10. |
