Bauhinia faberi Oliv. A small shrub or scrambler, with the characeristic bilobed leaves and heads of small white flowers, native of China, where it is common in W Yunnan and W Sichuan, growing by roadsides and on dry, open hillsides at up to 2000m, flowering in May. Shrub to 2m. Leaves lobed to a third, to 5.5cm long, or 6-12mm in var. microphylla Oliv., from the Min valley. Petals to 1cm long. This is one of the hardiest species and would be a useful parent of dwarfer, hardier Bauhinias. Min. -5°C. Z9. |
