Acer tataricum L. Tartar Maple
Native to south-east Europe and west Asia, cultivated in collections. Height to 9m (30ft) and may be bushy. Flowers open in erect bunches in late May developing into red keys with wings 2.5cm (1in) long. Leaves have 3 or 5 shallow lobes but often unlobed on mature trees, with down on the veins underneath. They colour yellow in autumn and fall early. Z4.
