Copernica baileyana Leon Yarey This palm is a native of Cuba and makes a tall impressive tree in Florida. The fan-shaped, narrow, hard and leathery, green leaves, around 1m (3ft) in diameter, are produced on thorny stalks and have tiny yellowish teeth on the margins. The small flowers are yellow and are carried in a branching inflorescence. Cultivation Grow in sandy soil that is deep and moisture retentive. Height to 12m (40ft); spread to 3m (10ft). USZ 10–11, surviving -1°C (30°F) of overnight frost. Needs water in summer. |
