Acer platanoides L. Norway Maple Native to Europe from Norway southwards, but not to Britain. Cultivated in streets, parks, gardens and shelterbelts in Europe and N. America. Grows to about l8-21m (60-70ft). Flowers open in late March or early April. Fruits have wings almost horizontal, ripening from green to brown, often persisting on the tree through winter. Leaves have finely pointed, almost thread-like, lobes and the stems exude a milky sap when broken. They turn clear deep yellow in autumn. Z3.
