Acer hyrcanum Fisch. & Mey. Balkan Maple Native to south-east Europe, cultivated in some collections. Grows slowly to 6-15m (20-50ft) tall. Flowers are produced in April in bunches of 20 or so. Keys have wings 1.2cm (½in) long down curved and almost parallel. Leaves are similar to Italian Maple (A. opalus) but are more deeply lobed and have long 10cm (4in) narrow yellow or pink stalks. Z5.
