Acer glabrum Torr. Rock Maple or Dwarf Maple Native to western N. America, where it is found by mountain streams at altitudes of l500-l800m (5000-6000ft). Grows to 9-l2m (30-40ft) but is often rather smaller and shrubby in cultivation. Flowers open in late April, male and female flowers usually on separate trees. Fruits) have down curved wings 2.5cm (1in) long. Leaves are 3-or 5-lobed and may even be split into 3 leaflets. Z5.
