Acer distylum Sieb. & Zucc. Lime-leaved Maple Native to Japan and found elsewhere only in larger collections. Has grown to 9m (30ft) in cultivation, though may reach 15m (50ft) in the wild. Flowers are produced in May in upright clusters 7·5-10cm (3-4in) long. Fruits form upright spikes (most maple fruit clusters droop). The keys have wings about 2.5cm (1in) long diverging at 100°. The leaves look rather like lime leaves, but are narrower, and the stem may be pink or red. Bark is green with orange stripes.Z7.
