Cestrum nocturnum L. An evergreen shrub with greenish-white flowers strongly scented at night, native of the West Indies, growing in open places in evergreen forests, flowering in summer–autumn. Lax shrub to 4m. Leaves to 20cm long, oblong-elliptic or narrowly ovate, thin-textured. Flowers 25mm long, narrowly funnel-shaped with erect rather than spreading lobes, borne in long elegant clusters. Fruit a small white berry. Min. 5°C. Although the flowers are less showy than those of other species, they compensate for this by their powerful scent. |
