Camellia japonica 'Mrs D. W. Davis' Introduced in 1954 by D. W. Davis of Seffner, Florida, USA. A vigorous grower and in America makes an erect and compact bush. In England it tends to have a more spreading habit when grown outdoors, and the flowers are easily damaged in bad weather; it is best grown under glass, when its huge, beautiful flowers can be seen to perfection. (There are three sports: 'Mrs D. W. Davis Peony' (loose peony-form blooms); 'Mrs D. W. Davis Descanso' (full peony form); and 'Mrs D. W. Davis Special', which has double the number of rows of petals.)
