Cupressus cashmeriana Kashmir Cypress This lovely graceful tree is said to be wild in Bhutan, not in Kashmir as was originally thought. It is often planted elsewhere in warm moist climates, and was popular as a foliage plant in Victorian conservatories. In the usual cultivated form the branches hang in long, narrow, fan-like sprays of soft bluish-green needles, 1–2mm (1⁄32–1⁄16in) long, a lovely foil for flowering shrubs. The cones are 1cm (3⁄8in) across and green. Cultivation Given shelter, warmth, and fertile leafy soil, it is fast growing. Height to 20m (65ft); spread to 6m (20ft). USZ 9–11, surviving -6.5°C (20°F) of overnight frost. Needs water in summer. |
